Who can forget when Mase stormed on the music scene in 1997 with his debut album Harlem World, featuring RnB classics such as ‘Tell Me What You Want‘ and ‘Feels Good’? But despite the success of this album and his second ‘Double Up‘, Mase made a shock announcement live on radio in 1999 that he was retiring from music to answer a ‘call from God’ and become a Pastor.

Subsequent years have seen attempted comebacks with some success and this week Mase dropped a new track featuring Eric Bellinger entitled, ‘Nothing‘ from his forthcoming album ‘Now We Even‘. Mase has teamed up with Chris Brown’s ‘Loyal‘ producer Nic Nac, so what the track lacks in lyrics it makes up in beats, but the question remains – is Mase still relevant?

So as it’s the 1st of the month, I guess it would be off key of me (as off key as Cassie’s debut performance on 106 & Park) not to buss some new tunes up on the blog.

Firstly, it’s my look-a-like, Usher. This guy gives me jokes. He got all your hopes up for the album with ‘Climax’ only to have you all shook when you heard the dancey pop sound of ‘Scream’. Well now comes ‘Let Me See’ featuring
Officer Ricky. Maybe he really is back on the R&B wave.

Next, it’s Moesha. In my humble opinion this woman is mad talented. And I know nobody’s been checking for her for a minute – but since she dropped the Monica tune and her Behind The Music episode aired, she’s been heating up. This one called ‘Put It Down’ features her rapping alter ego Bran’Nu, Chris Breezy with a rap verse (it’s decent still) and it’s been compared to her ‘Full Moon’ stuff from back in ’01.

Last but not least it’s my guy J-Sol. He’s a singing, song writing, acting, Brit School Graduate and future star. ‘Alien’ features Cashtastic and looks like it’s set to be his 1st single so watch out for him.

Hey R&B family,
It’s big tune time. We’ve had the “Fame”, here comes the “Fortune” erm…album! Courtesy of Breezy.
It’ll be the 1st official single from the forthcoming album (although “Strip” was made available as a taster also available on his “Boy In Detention” mixtape)
As he did with “Yeah 3x” & “Beautiful People” he’s on his electronic /dance / R&B flex this time opting for Production dons The Underdogs to take care of the beats.
Due for digital release Feb 14th, this is defo going to be a str8 up number one banger.
I’ll be blazing it on my BBC Radio 1xtra R&B show this Monday so lock in for that.
